Geelong · Surf Coast · Bellarine
JC Fencing and Gates installs Colorbond steel fencing across Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine. We handle boundary fences, infill panels, gates and sloping sites, set posts properly in concrete, and finish every job with straight lines, tidy capping and a clean site.
Colorbond is the default choice for most suburban boundary fences in Geelong for good reason. It is a pre-finished steel system, so there is no painting, no oiling and no annual maintenance beyond an occasional hose down. It will not warp, split, rot or attract termites, and the colour is baked on rather than sprayed over the top, so it holds up far better than a painted timber fence in full afternoon sun.
It is also the quietest and most private option in the standard price bracket. The sheets interlock into rails with no gaps, which means no line of sight into the yard and a noticeable reduction in road noise compared with a paling fence. For families with dogs or pools, the absence of horizontal footholds on the outside face matters too.
The trade-off is that Colorbond is a manufactured product with fixed panel heights and a fixed look. If you want the warmth of natural timber or a fully custom profile, our timber fencing is usually the better fit. We will tell you honestly which one suits your block rather than pushing the product with the better margin.
Standard residential boundary fencing is most commonly built at 1.8 metres, which is the height most Geelong councils treat as exempt for a rear or side boundary. We also build lower fences for front boundaries and internal divisions, and taller fences with an extension where privacy or screening is the priority — those are the ones worth checking against your planning overlay first.
Colour choice is mostly about what it will sit next to. Neutral greys and charcoals are the most common request across newer Armstrong Creek and Lara estates because they disappear against modern render and brick. Softer greens and beiges tend to work better against established gardens and older weatherboard homes in Highton, Newtown and Belmont.
We can also mix systems where it makes sense: Colorbond along the long side boundaries with a timber or slat feature panel at the front, or a Colorbond fence sitting on top of a low sleeper retaining wall to deal with a fall across the block.
Boundary fencing
Full side and rear boundary runs, with rails and posts sized to the fence height.
Sloping and stepped sites
Raked or stepped panels so the fence follows the ground without leaving gaps underneath.
Matching gates
Single and double Colorbond gates built with steel frames, not just sheet screwed to a rail.
Fence extensions
Lattice or slat toppers added to an existing fence for extra height and privacy.
Every job starts with a site visit so we can measure accurately, check for services, look at the fall across the ground and confirm exactly where the boundary sits. Quoting a fence off a photo or a rough length is how people end up with a variation halfway through, so we do not do it.
On installation day we set out the line first, dig the post holes to depth, and concrete every post. Rails go on once the concrete has gone off, then the sheets, then the capping. Cut edges are kept out of sight where possible and the run is checked for level and line as we go, not at the end when it is too late to fix.
Old fence removal, disposal and a full clean-up can be included in the quote. We would rather take the rubbish with us than leave a pile of rusted sheet and broken posts on your nature strip.
If the fence sits on a shared boundary, talk to your neighbour before you accept a quote. In Victoria, boundary fencing costs are commonly shared, and the conversation is far easier before the job is booked than after the old fence is on the ground. We are happy to provide a written quote you can pass on to them.
Check for services and irrigation before we dig. Post holes go deeper than most people expect, and unmarked conduit, sprinkler lines and old septic runs are the most common cause of delays on an otherwise straightforward job.
Finally, think about access. If the only way to the rear boundary is through the house or a narrow side path, tell us at quote stage. It affects how long the job takes and we would rather price it correctly up front than surprise you.
Tell us the job, your suburb and roughly how much fencing you need. Josh will call you back to talk it through and book a site measure.
